ABOUT DEEP ADAPTATION

Author Matteo Bruscagin | Date 20/06/2019

Last night I called my dear friend Christian that lives in Ibiza. We have been friends for long time and we share an interest and passion for music and we like to talk about environmental issues. We keep these topics always active and at the center of our conversations. We are always discussing the possibly to find solutions for the mistakes made by the improper use of some technologies in this century (we have the possibly to use sustainable stone paper to print, recycle, care about the value of water and reforestation, etc.).

Going back to our phone call, while talking, I realised that this time our conversation had a different meaning. I realised that we talked about very similar contents of a university study called "DEEP ADAPTATION”, a document that deals with matters related to our ecosystem, with a different point of view and with quite scary approaches.

Without going into details and professional esteem regarding the author of the dispensation and despite the fact that originally it was a document reserved for few professors and students, the study, has reached hundreds of thousands of downloads, also becoming part of a teaching topic in some schools as a subject of study and knowledge. Reading the study, what impressed me the most, was the approach taken by the professor and the fact that he changed his previous opinion due to new considerations regarding climate change.

"Deep Adaptation" is a study that takes into consideration information that are accessible to everyone, analysing the contents using a modern approach; we are not talking about finding solutions that we must take to fix or avoid what has been done, but we are talking about the consequences we will have to face in order to adapt ourselves to climate changes that are already happening (perhaps even for centuries). We need to pay attention to it, maybe even without the possibility to have solutions.

DA is a warning for the future, for the events that will happen. I hope perhaps, just for a sense of responsibility, that we’ll be ready in any case even if at the end nothing will happen...

Going back to the conversation I was having with Christian about "Deep Adaptation” talking about the catastrophes that could threaten us, the document describes the reasons for the media underestimation of these phenomena, subtracting information to us for a sense of social protection from an alarmism that unfortunately affects us all, on topics that are certainly catastrophic.

The point is, if supposedly nothing will happen and everything is not real, the matter is deprived of the reason for which it should be hidden or treated with suspicion.

Unfortunately, I’m very intrigued by the simplicity of the reading and the explanations and I can only be alarmed by "Deep Adaptation", while reading I can understand the reason why many scientists, cultured people, famous artists, and others, have decided to change their lifestyle, their habits, their work, moving to other areas of the planet.

I myself, years ago, based on reasoning prior to this event, being able to do it while taking a risk, I have decided to move to the countryside. I have built my  recording studio in a natural park at the source of a river, where I am still now (Yellow Garden Studio). I’m also growing with my father more than a thousand trees in the land we bought, we are trying to do our part, even if small, to be helpful.

As my final personal consideration, I believe that it is not to blame anyone if these events were to happen, it would be useless and I think it would be too late, considering that perhaps we ourselves with a touch of hypocrisy are all, more or less, actors. Perhaps we may not be the cause of some, but anyway I believe we have been an accelerator, both ignoring and not taking into consideration the effects, blinded by the god of money.

I hope it will not be so, but in the light of this information I would like to live in a prepared society, because together we can all knowingly always do something and be ready for these eventualities, hoping it is not too late.
